Everyone Loves ‘Lydia’

Apparently I’m not the only one who found Lydia to be a breakthrough play in 2008. Octavio Solis’ family drama, which premiered at Denver Center Theatre Company, is one of six finalists for the nation’s largest new-play award.

The Harold & Mimi Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award is named after the parents of Denver Center for the Performing Arts board member Jim Steinberg, although he is not involved in the selection of the finalists. They are chosen by a number of American theater critics.

Two other playwrights commissioned by DCTC are finalists for plays that premiered elsewhere: Lee Blessing for Great Falls and Steven Dietz for Becky’s New Car. The other three finalists are Yussef El Guindi, E.M. Lewis and Tracy Letts.

The winner will be announced April 4 at the Humana Festival of New American Plays in Louisville, Ky.

Where did this photo come from? Will you be crediting the source or slipping further from common practice?
