What began as a movement to save one newspaper has broadened its scope to fight for news institutions in peril throughout the nation.

The mission of I Want My Rocky is to stem losses in journalism and protect the future of vibrant, independent, professional and reliable news sources. Well-staffed and well-funded newsrooms are essential for gathering the information necessary for citizens of a democracy to participate in self-governance; yet, many newsrooms are under threat of closure or deep cuts. To make informed choices, citizens must rely on the eyes and ears of professional journalists who adhere to strict codes of conduct in pursuit of truth and non-bias; yet, many thousands of journalists are off the beat. It’s an industry in crisis, and a vital public service is at stake.

I Want My Rocky seeks solutions through public policy, peer-to-peer outreach, education and advocacy.
