Take Action
Talk to your elected officials
Encourage members of Congress, state legislators and local officials to pay attention of media issues. Your calls and letters make a difference.
Write a letter to the editor, op-ed or blog post
Letters to the editor should be short and focused. Contact the editor of your local news organization for guidelines for submitting a longer op-ed piece.
Spread the word
Share what you know about key media issues with your friends, family and professional networks. And when you take action – with a letter to the editor, a blog post, a call to an elected official or other initiative – ask others to do the same. Bring up media issues with your social, neighborhood, church or political groups.
Find a media-advocacy group
Activists across the country are working together to protect and expand press freedoms and advance policies that support a robust, vibrant press. Freepress.net offers this list of groups working on media reform.
